Pastoral Resident
Garrett was born and raised in Washington State with one brother by two loving parents. At eighteen years old, he and his girlfriend became Christians. Since then, they have been happily married for ten years and blessed with two wonderful children. Garrett worked as a gymnastics coach, elementary PE teacher, and pastoral resident for high school ministry in Washington. Currently, Garrett is in his third year pursuing a Master of Divinity at Bethlehem Seminary in Minneapolis. He aspires to faithfully pastor a local church for the rest of his life.
Garrett and Lu have two children: Lincoln and Harley.
Josh Koehn
Lead Pastor
Born and raised in Minnesota, Josh got his first taste of ministry working at a bible camp as a teenager. He first felt called to full-time ministry while in college, which led him to Bethlehem Seminary in Minneapolis. Josh loves to teach the bible to people of all ages and is eager to see the people of Northfield Community Church apply the gospel to every area of their lives, both personally and as a community of believers.
Josh and his wife, Kristina, have three kids-Jack, Thomas and Clara.
Maxwell Parlin
College Ministry Staff
Maxwell grew up in a secular environment in the Boston area and came to Christ as a broken college student by reading Russian literature, especially Dostoevsky. Because literature was his gateway to God, he aspired to teach it on the college campus so that students could find the same healing and joy that he had found. After receiving a PhD from Princeton, Maxwell moved to Northfield as a visiting professor at St. Olaf. Two years later, the Lord surprised, challenged, and blessed him by calling him into vocational ministry, to which he had felt drawn for years. While he appreciates the Great Books, his passion is for the Greatest Book and the glorious God at its center. Maxwell and his wife Jackie have five kids: Phoebe, Violet, Natalie, Wells, and Daisy.
Zach Simmons
College Ministry Pastor
Growing up as a pastors kid, Zach had convinced himself he was God's gift to mankind. God used several people in college to humble him and help him see his own great need for a Savior, which in turn gave him a desire to minister to other college students. Zach loves to have honest conversations about faith with college students, and he feels a specific burden to share the gospel with those who haven't heard it before.
Zach and his wife, Justine, have three kids-William, Sullivan, and Marigold.
Kim Vettrus
Youth Ministry Director
Kim grew up in a Christian home in the Twin Cities, attending the same church from birth to graduation. From a young age, Kim felt God’s call to ministry, especially youth ministry. Kim graduated from Northwestern College with a degree in Youth and Family Ministries, and returned for a Master’s in Theology. She has served in youth ministry roles for a couple large churches in the cities. Her family moved to Northfield in 2021 and attended NCC. In 2024, she transitioned from volunteer to youth ministry director. She’s passionate about students understanding what the Bible says, why it says it, and how we can live and share it with others.
Kim and her husband, Ryan have three kids - Adelynn, Ben, and Piper

Worship & Communications Director & Administrative Assistant
Jonny grew up in a musical, church going family, spending his middle and high school years as part of a small church plant in Colorado. This afforded him the opportunity to learn how to play instruments and sing with a variety of musicians. After studying music at Greenville College in southern Illinois, God grew a desire in his heart to lead the church in worship. His great desire at NCC is for the church to be encouraged and shaped by coming together to sing songs that are rich with Biblical truths.
Jonny and his wife, Emily, have three kids -Jameson, Noelle, and Thea.
